In the early part of the 20th century French-Jewish capitalist Albert Kahn set about to collect a photographic record of the world, the images were held in an 'Archive of the Planet'. Before the 1929 stock market crash he was able to amass a collection of 180,000 metres of b/w film and more than 72,000 autochrome plates, the first industrial process for true colour photography

Autochrome was the first industrial process for true colour photography. When the Lumière brothers launched it commercially in June 1907, it was a photograhic revolution - black and white came to life in colour. Autochromes consist of fine layers of microscopic grains of potato starch – dyed either red-orange, green or violet blue – combined with black carbon particles, spread over a glass plate where it is combined with a black and white photographic emulsion. All colours can be reproduced from three primary colours.

Underwater photography

Most of us photographers are not really going to the "depth" of this art. The real depth exists under the vast oceans. And some dare to do it. 

Ocean is a wonderful place. Just as the shore looks amazing in the morning so does the ocean’s surface at evening when the sunset hits it. But the real drama of the ocean is under the water. There are few photographer out of millions who really take the challenge and opportunity to dive and show us what really exist on the ocean bed. 

Underwater photography is a challenging area. It require special equipments and accessories to begin with such as waterproof cameras or water sealed casings.. Furthermore underwater photography become a challenge because the real color and contrast are not accurately visible the more deeper you dive. To overcome this certain strobes, flash lights and lenses are used. 

No matter how good you are equipped with all the above, the critical skill which you require other than photographing is the skill to be survive underwater! 

Even though we may never get to do this it’s a sheer joy even to look at few of these wonderful underwater photographs.

මේ ශ්‍රී දළදා මාලිගාව රාත්‍රියට දිස්වන ආකාරය. මේ පින්තුරේ පිටිපස්සේ හොඳ කතාවක් තියෙනවා.

මේ පින්තුරේ ගත්තේ මීට අවුරුදු එකහමාරකට විතර කලින්. හරියටම කිව්වොත් 2008 දෙසැම්බර් 2 ද රාත්‍රී 8.41 ට. මේක ගත්තේ මම මහියංගනයේ ගිහිල්ල ආපහු කොළඹ එන ගමනක. මාත් එක්ක තව යහළුවෝ කිහිපදෙනෙකුත් ගියා. මහියංගනයේ ගියේ සමාජසේවා වැඩකට. දුෂ්කර ඉස්කෝලෙකට පොත් පත් වගේම තවත් පහසුකම් කිහිපයක් සපයන්නය් ගියේ. ගිය වැඩේ හරියට කරගෙන එන සන්තොසේත් එක්ක දළදා මාලිගාව දැක්කම හිතට මහා ප්‍රීතියක් දැනුන. බෞද්ද අපට ඉතින් මෙතනට තියෙන භක්තිය ආයේ කියන්න ඕනෙද නේද? අනික ඉතින් ෆොටෝ ගහන අපිට තියෙන අර අමුතු කිචිය නිසා මහන්සි කියල බලන්නේ නෙතුව වාහනේ නවත්තල බැස්ස ෆොටෝ ගහන වැඩේට.

හැමෝටම මතක ඇති ඔය කියන දවස්වල ලංකාවේ ආරක්ෂක තත්වය එතරම්ම සුබදායක නැහැ. ඔය සති අන්තයේත් බස් එකක තිබිල බෝම්බයක් එහෙම හොයාගෙන තිබුන. මේ අහු අස්සේ මමත් ගිය මහා රාත්‍රියේ දළදා මාලිගාවේ ෆොටෝ ගහන්න . (ගොනා කියල මරන්නද නේ?) මාත් එක්ක සඳුන් කන්චනත් අවා tripod එක අටෝගෙන (ගොනා #2)

ත්‍රිපාදය (සිංහලෙන් කිව්වොත් tripod) එක අටවල පින්තුර කිහිපහයක් ගත්ත පට පට ගාල. මේවගේ වෙලාවක ෆොටෝ වලට ත්‍රිපාදයක් අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම අවශ්‍ය වෙනවා. මොකද අඩු shutter ස්පීඩ් එකක් පාව්හිච්චි කරන්න වෙන නිසා කැමරා එක නිශ්චලව තියාගන්න බැරි නිසා. Remote shutter release එකකුත් තියෙනවනම් ඉතින් වැඩේ තවත් පංකාදු හතට කරන්න පුළුවන් හරි.

දැන් ඉතින් අපි ෆොටෝ ගහනකොට කිහිප දෙනෙක් ටිකක් අමුතු විදිහට බල බලත් ගියා ඔන්න. හරියටම විනාඩි 15 ක් විතර යනකොට පොලිසියේ මහත්වරු කිහිපයක් ආපි. අර වෙලාවේ වැව රවුමෙන් ගිය කවුද මන්ද දේශප්‍රේමියෙක් පොලිසියට කියල මම මෙතන ෆොටෝ ගහනවා කියල.

මොනවකරන්න ඉතින් ෆොටෝ වැඩේ එතැනින්ම නිමය්. කොහොමහරි නුවර පොලිසියටත් ගියා. ගිහිල්ල ටිකක් වෙලා චටෙර් අකකුත් කාල ඊටපස්සේ කැමරා එකේ තිබ්බ පින්තුර එකින් එක එතන හිටපු පරිගණක රසායනාගාරයේ මහත්වරුන්ට පෙන්නුවා. අනේ ඉතින් ඒගොල්ලන්ට තේරුණා අපි ත්‍රස්තවාදියෝ නෙමේ කියල!! කොහොම කොහොම හරි විනාඩි පහළොවේ වැඩේට පැය එකහමාරක් විතර ගත කරලා අපි නුවරින් පිටත් උනා.

මේ පින්තුරේ දකින වාරයක් ගානේ මට ගොඩක් දේවල් මතක් වෙනවා. එකක් තමය් අපේ මිනිස්සු ඒ කාලේ කොය්තරම් විමසිල්ලෙන් හිටපු නිසාද වෙන්න තිබුන මහා විනාශයන් ගොඩකින් බේරුනේ. අනික රැයක් දවාලක් නොබලා තමන්ගේ රාජකාරිය අකුරටම ඉටු කරපු ආරක්ෂක අංශ වල උදවිය ගෙනත් අමතක නොකරම බැහැ. අපිට ටිකක් කරදර උනත් එකරදරය අපේම ආරක්ෂාවට කියල සමහර විට අපිටම අමතක වෙනවා නේ?

උදා පින්නට ඇත්තේ අඩු ආයු කාලයකි. නමුත් මොහොතකට හෝ පිනි ඉතා සුන්දරය. ලෝකය ලස්සන කිරීමට බොහෝ කාලය අවශ්ය නොවේ.
එසේනම් අපට කොතරම් දේවල් කල හැකිද ??..

Morning dew has a limited lifespan. But for that moment it makes this world a beautiful place. Time is irrelevant to make a change. How much can we do?
